DéLor Tips

Opals – The Ballkan Soul Collection

These exquisite opals, featured in the Ballkan Soul collection, are relatively soft gemstones (5.5-6.5/10 on the Mohs scale), with a mesmerizing play-of-color.

Handle with care: avoid sudden temperature changes, prolonged exposure to water – especially saltwater – and direct sunlight. Opals contains approximately 10% water and traces of silica, making them sensitive to dehydratation, chemical exposure and UV-induced fading.

Professional cleaning is recommended.

Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as these can damage the gemstone or affect its natural hydration.

Each opal in the Ballkan Soul collection embodies a story of depth and color: careful handling ensures it continues to shine beautifully.

Relatively soft (2.5-3 on the Mohs scale for pure, 3-4 for alloys) and can scratch more easily than harder metals. Despite this, it remains the most traditional and luxurious choice in jewellery.
Available in yellow, white and rose: the color depends on alloy metals (copper, silver, palladium, nickel), but the value remains essentially the same.
Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals (chlorine, bleach) that can weaken the metal or alter its finish.
Clean gently at home with lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Professional polishing may be done if needed, but always seek advice from our specialists to ensure it is performed only when truly necessary.
Harder and denser than gold (4-4.5 on the Mohs scale), with excellent durability. It resists bending and wear, making it ideal for secure gemstone settings.
Naturally white in color, enhances the brilliance of diamonds and colored gemstones. It does not require rhodium plating, unlike some white gold alloys.
Avoid exposure to strong chemicals. It may develop a patina over time, which many consider part of its appeal.
Clean with likewarm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Professional polishing can restore shine, but it should be carried out under recommendation of our experts and only when the piece genuinely requires it.
Thought exceptionnally hard (10/10 on the Mohs scale), diamonds are still susceptible to scratches from other diamonds – always store them separetely.
Avoid prolonged contact with oils, cosmetics and creams that may reduce their brillance.
Professional ultrasonic cleaning is possible, but only under expert supervision; it is not recommended to attempt at home.
Clean gently at home with lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft brush for daily maintenance.
Are relatively soft and fragile (7.5-8/10 on the Mohs scale), due to natural inclusions. They are often called « gardens » because of these inclusions, which resemble tiny natural landscapes, making them more suscetible to scratches and impacts.
Avoid sudden temperature changes and mechanical shocks that may comprimise the gemstone.
Professional cleaning is recommended; at home, use a soft, slighlty damp cloth.

Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaning, as the gemstone may crack or its oils may be affected.

Are close relatives in the corundum family, sharing similar hardness and chemical properties (9/10 on the Mohs scale).
While resilient, they can chip upon strong impact; avoid prolonged contact with hard or abrasive surfaces.
Professional ultrasonic cleaning is safe under expert supervision.
For routine care, clean with lukewarm water and a mild detergent using a soft brush.
